Why Autumn Rocks

I Heart Autumn because....

1 - We can cook in our oven and enjoy the rise in temperature that doing so brings. (This is a pic of our oven, isn't it schweet?)

2 - I can break out my extensive legging collection.

3 - It is Dia de los Muertos season.

4 - The cats get all snuggly when they are chilly.

5 - The fireplace regains its significant role in our home.

6 - REM. I always want to pull out my REM cds during the Fall. Not only does their music perfectly suit my post-summer/pre-winter mood, but they released some of my favorite albums (Document, Green & Automatic for the People) during this season and the music somehow became part of my personal Autumnal Soundtrack.

7 - Corduroy.

8 - Target starts putting snack-size candy bars on sale.

9 - It is knitting season!

10 - I LOVE slow-cooking soups and marinara on the stove...not to mention the smell of baking bread that accompanies this exercise.

11 - If you're in the right place at the right time, you just might feel that wonderfully crisp Autumn chill that is unfortunately such a fleeting experience. And, pretty difficult to come by here in California.

12 - Rain. Another thing we don't get enough of in California.

13 - It is time to pull out the flannel duvet.

14 - Butternut squash, brussels sprouts, tarte tatin, sage butter, mashed potatoes, roast turkey, spiced cider, apple butter.

15 - Of course the colors of Fall. Red leaves, orange pumpkins, red pomegranates, yellow scarecrows, ruddy faces and the most beautiful sunsets of the entire year.

Editors Note: Regarding #2 on my list...I really meant *TIGHTS* vs. leggings. Honest.
Thanks to Millicent for triggering my memory on that one.

2) Seeing your breath in the morning air
3) Mittens
4) Red noses
5) Hay rides on pumpkin farms
Too fun!

Well, seeing as how the high was 91 today (IN OCTOBER!!!!), I'm not feeling very fall-ish. Which sucks, because I have some fierce brown suede knee-high boots I'm dying to break out.

However, it is my favorite season as well...once the damn weather changes! :)

Oh, yeah! We don't really get much of a fall here, so we have to fake it. But I love the comfort foods of fall, some rain, pumpkins and Indian corn, apples (and all the goodies you can make with them), and a Pumpkin Spcie Latte from Starbucks! ;-)

Mmmm...fall is wonderful. Never thought about REM being a seasonal band, but it makes me want to get them out and listen now. Great list. Thanks for sharing.

Good list, and I agree with them all but the leggings. I just can't do the legging revival. I think you're awesome, and I believe in my heart of hearts that I can look beyond the "extensive collection" because that's what e-pals do.... LOL!

I love fall as well! I can remember riding up to the North Georgia mountains as a child to see the beautiful fall colors. We would stop at a roadside stand to pick up apples, sorghum and boiled peanuts. I love those boiled peanuts!
You will have to post some slow cook soup recipes, I love to try new soups!

Who would have ever guessed there was an entire website dedicated to the 100 year anniversary of the tarte tatin? The things I learn from blogs...and WHAT'S UP with the leggings, girl?? Oh well, if you can wear them, flaunt them. Wear a pair for me.

Wendy,

Autumn is my favorite also! I just love the crispness in the air and fires in the chimenea and fireplace.

Ok, what's wrong with leggings?

I'm wondering if you were thinking of those "ankle" ones that are making such a comeback? Those are not the ones that I wear. I wear the DKNY & HUE ones from Macy's in lieu of "stockings" (read: they have feet). I started wearing them during my strapped-for-cash days when replacing pantyhose was too much of an extravagance.

Leggings last forever. This is why I have such an extensive collection.

Autumn is my number 1 fave too. The oven is too cool...love the look.

Now, that is too weird, I had my REM going this weekend too. I haven't played it in quite a while. You're right, it just sort of fit :0)

Leggings? Ah, you are braver than me :0)

I'm so jealous of that oven. So jealous.

Ohmigod your oven....I am loving and adoring it. And I think that you and I have done some sort of Vulcan mind-meld thing because 1. I wear LOADS of DKNY and Hue leggings (in earth-tones, but I call them tights), 2. I was just about to post about autumn today as well, and 3. I think we read the exact SAME blogs (or at least we comment on the same blogs). Whenever I see your comment on somebody else's blog it makes me smile. Magical.

I am in love with your oven. Can I have an autographed picture to hang in my kitchen as inspiration? Great sunset photo - truly stunning. But the oven? What a hottie!

You're like my roommate...she LOVES the fall. I guess it's ok...it means my birthday is eventually coming. :-)
I don't like Halloween though..it's my most disliked holiday. But I like pumpkin carving and I'm going pumpkin picking this weekend YEY!

By the way.....I couldn't think of anything I wanted to use as my "quote/saying" for the quilt...so I KINDA wrote my own today. :-X yes, yes I wrote a poem. It was everything I feel is true and when I read through it, it actually brought a tear to my eye because I was thinking of everything my parents have done for me... haha so I'm probly getting you all excited now and I can't wait to send it. I'm NOT a poem writer so this is something really special to me...you'll like the title of it too.

Love REM. They used to be a club band when I was in high school, I snuck into a club with a fake id to see them! My parents never questioned why I was dressed up to go study!

okay, you're off the hook. Tights=GOOD, Leggings=BAD (unless you're running or working out at the gym).
Oh,and I LOVE your oven/stove. Is it an AGA?

What a super duper list- making me all autumn happy! It is my favorite season as well- and my b/d which means gifts, and pampering and cake- what can be better then that?

Oh the relief is palpable! Thanks for clearing that whole leggings thing up - pshew!
BTW - I wear tights all winter too!

I HEART THAT OVEN!!!

In northern Arizona right now, it is Fall in the morning and evening (40s-50s) and Summer during the day (80s-90s). Leave it to the desert for the big temperature differential...is it Crowded House that has the song about "Four Seasons in One Day"? Yeah, that's us.

In Phoenix, #1 on the list is taking pictures of us bbqing in December and sending it to the relatives in NY and laughing laughing laughing!
Although I do admit it would be fun to have experienced just one white Christmas.

And I love making my low fat pumpkin soup. mmmmm mmmmmm good.

I heart your oven too!!! I love living in temperate climate, and fall is the reason why. We were married in the fall (5 years tomorrow, in fact). I so wanted our wedding pictures to have the vibrant backdrop of the leaves, with the crisp smell of change in the air. I loved your list. Very visceral for me. REM also reminds me of the fall, I think because it reminds me of college, and going back to the dorms and hearing their music at the start of every year. Good times...

Oh, my new blog is up. Come check it out~
