I Believe in UFOs

Frequently when faced with crappy news like further slow motion on the adoption front, I find myself self-medicating at either the yarn shop or the fabric store. Somehow working on a project feels like forward motion, productive use of my time and...well, to someone like me...just looking at pretty colors and fondling soft wool is meditative. The promise of creating something lovely brings me joy.

Sooooo, with all of this talk about the latest batch of "March" referrals only covering TWO DAYS (insert pained moan) I surprised myself by reconnecting with some old projects vs. going around and starting new ones. This was AFTER much needed zoning out in front of the DVR watching inspirational Oprah-esque programmes, inhaling a large tub of microwave popcorn and enjoying a suuuper long shower. Come to think of it, maybe I just didn't feel like leaving the house?

Old Projects = UFOs (un-finished objects)

Here is the pillow cover project that I started maybe last summer. It was my first try at cables and I love the neutral heathery yarn. Believe it or not, cables are actually quite easy & fun. I'm stoked to get back to work on these guys.

This next project is for BabyZ. Remember the Lambies & Lola that I made for my neice (click on the highlighted words to see a pic)? Probably not, because it was my second post ever. Anyway, of course BabyZ needs her own set. The "baby" lamb pictured is waiting to be felted and stuffed. I thought that it would be fun to make it muticolored. This yarn is supposed to be excellent for felting. The "mama" lamb is going to be the magenta hue. Fun.

Finally, here is a pic of this shawl that I've been thinking about for ages. I bought the yarn several years ago and began the project before I was really ready. It is a complicated lace pattern, one that you have to pay attention to - not a great beginner activity. I ripped that thing out so many times that I had to hide it in a drawer. I miss it.

Don't you just love this color?? I am excited just typing about it. Maybe I'll drown my CCAA sorrows in this dusty pinkness. I suppose there are worse things that I could do.

Who knows? I may just end up at the fabric shop by Sunday. Or at least with some sort of crazy Hot Fudge something or other. How is everyone else coping?

PS - Not sure about who will get the big prize on the prior posts contest.....still deciding.

Hmm... Maybe I need to take up knitting?

I am bummed BIG TIME about these most recent rumors. I sort of feel trapped. If I just stay in the moment, I'm fine. But when I start thinking about the adoption and the timing of the adoption, I just get so sad and frustrated.

I just love all of your projects. That shawl is going to be beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Yarn shops are just good for the soul.

Funny.
We had the same sort of day. I didn't want to leave the house, and spent the day working more on my fair isle hat UFO and sorting my stash for future UFO's.
It seems we're all alittle glum right now - these rumors can really bring me down!
Thank god for the soothing repetitive activities that take you away.

p.s. your projects look fun...and cute! I love cabling, too.

That cabled pillow cover is awsome. One question, where did you find the pattern? The shawl is lovely and I believe that one is from Weekend Knitting, am I right? After working in a yarn store, I am a pattern junkie with a need to know these things.

Thank goodness for knitting during these waits. Yes, Joannah take up knitting!

Wow, WZ, your talents never cease to amaze me. I love all those projects, and can't wait to see the finished products. Baby Z is so lucky to have the lambies to go with her wee wonderfuls. I think I need to take up knitting too -- right after I learn to use my camera, learn photoshop, get more squares for my quilt...seriously though, as a kid, I used to love knitting, cross-stitching, latch hook rugging, needlepoint. Those girl scout meetings were good for something!

Glad you're keeping busy. Those projects look awesome. Coping? Not so much. More like ignoring. And denying.

I love the whisper pink color. And slight fuzz. Just like bloomin' trees.

Beautious yarn...I could never hope to be able to create something out of it. I am not crafty that way though I wish I had the patience to learn.

Doesn't Iris go bonzo cat with the yarn?

I'm doing the same thing--trying out some new crafty projects. Anything to take the mind off referrals!

Great isea about working on the UFO's. I definitely have lots of UFO's around here. The quilting projects look beautiful and I really like the yarn colors you chose. Referral times are severely bummin' me out this week and both John and I are sick...YUCK!

Pulling out the UFOs must be contagious. I pulled out my knitting, which hasn't seen the light of day in YEARS and in two days, finished the body of a tiny sweater and will begin the sleeves tomorrow.

I'm delaying as long as I can to really start following the referrals details. I haven't recovered yet from my warp speed paperchase. I just realized that Beijing received my paperwork 12 weeks from the day I began.

I haven't tackled knitting yet. My friend at work taught me how to crochet first - she said it is easier to learn. I enjoy it - mindless and keeps my hands busy. The shawl looks awesome!
