Wanderlust

I've been a really good girl.

Yes, I've been pinching pennies, cutting back on the Macy's habit, scaling back on the baby gear buying, saving up all of my vacation and sick leave at work and considering part time employment to add to the coffers. I've also been reading parenting and adoption books, educating myself about quilt-making (for the Bai Jia Bei) and getting back into the gym to strengthen my baby-picking-up muscles. All in anticipation of how life will change once baby-girl moves in. Because....as everyone reports with the wisdom of 10,000 Old Wives....EVERYthings gonna change.

OK, I get that & I'm up for that. And, a girls gotta have fun, too.

I've been enviously reading as quite a few of my blog-friends have mentioned trips that they have taken or are planning to take. For example, there's Millicent's trip to Croatia, Carrie's trip to Paris, Rhonda's trip to Scotland, Jen just got back from Vegas, Holly just got back from the Oregon coast, Kim just got back from Africa, Barb's planning Greece and of course there's M3's trip to Austrailia. And, what about the crazy road trips to Detroit and Florida that Connie is organizing??

Many very cool vacations. People enjoying their pre-referral lifestyles.
I want a piece of that.

So jzboy & I are thinking Mexico. Seems like it would be relatively inexpensive. We would be more than happy with modest accomodations close to the playa. Anyone have a recommendation? Our recently married, well traveled friends suggested Isla Mujeres. Any other thoughts?? Think cheap....and non-touristy. Good food. Not too hot.

Just the thought of it warms my heart & my toes (its cold this morning). Thanks for any thoughts...

That's sounds awesome- can I live vicariously through you? We went to Cancun on our honeymoon yes, it was touristy but still the weather, salsa and margaritas fantastic- you should GO!!

I say GO FOR IT as well! Joel and I went to Puerto Vallarta for our Honeymoon (ten years ago) and loved it! We stayed at the Qualton Club and Spa (very lovely). Two years after that, we went to Manzanillo and, although it was ultra hot, it was the epitome of serene and laid back. We stayed at the Sierra Radisson on that trip and it was beautiful.
PLanning a vacation is so much fun!

Sounds fun - do it do it! (And then blog about it so we can all feel warm and happy looking at the relaxing pictures, of course.) :-)

Do it and have fun. Unfortunately, I don't know squat about Mexico. But I do hear the tales of great vacays coming out of there.

Let's see some pics of some sand and surf!

*Travel Envy!!*

However, I'd *love* to come and visit *you*, because the 2 days we spent in SanFran in March were not enough! Jake and I would *love* to go back to the Muir Woods, and I need to score some more Cali wine-my state's liquor laws won't allow me to have any shipped here, the bastards!

Also, I've never been outside the US (much to my dismay), but the Isla sounds divine.

PS: Did you notice my profile pic is me on the pier at Fisherman's Wharf w/Alcatrez in the background, and me wearing my $5 "San Francisco" hat?

Haven't been, but it sounds like fun. We're taking a trip to SO-CAL (where we used to live)in January and I can't wait. I can't wait to hear about your trip to Mexico.

Go, go, go! Read everything you can on the internet, especially current posts by real people - word of mouth is the way to go. Here's something to get you started:

Here's another link: http://roughguides.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=frm&s=5864058821&f=6884068921

Don't be hesitant to e-mail any of these posters with questions. What can it hurt and you may get a priceless tidbit of info. My advice for traveling on a budget? Picnic picnic picnic. Take a small cutting board, some basic utensils, and a bottle opener in your checked-luggage. You're good to go anywhere and food from the market is much cheaper than restaurants. Enough of my travel bossy - I'm so happy you're going to Mexico. I've only been to Akumal and that was years ago, back when it had only one bar in town that closed at 8 p.m. I'd rather remember it that way then return. Keep us posted!

Never been to Mexico. We're traveling to Phoenix in Nov. on business, then to Chicago for Thanksgiving, then to Vail in January for 2 days, but other than that, we can't afford to take any more vacation time "just in case" it is 2007. Let us know how this goes, we may be interested.

Yes life will change, but for the best. This is Christina, Stephanies sister. I just wanted to say thanks for checking in on me. I am glad I get to check out all these new blogs now. Thanks again.

Wendy,

I have not been to Mexico, but I am sure that you two will have a wonderful time wherever you go.

Think of it as a babymoon! You deserve it.

You go, girl! Since we were DTC, we've (one or both of us) been to Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Pacific Grove, England, Canada, and Pinecrest, CA. Granted, much of this was for work, but it certainly helped pass the time to referral.

DH and I loved Cabo on our honeymoon; and I can't speak highly enough about Costa Rica (Playa Tambor).

Do it, do it! Mexico is wonderful!A perfect place to eat, drink and be merry. Relaxing is good too.
I think Mexico is our favorite place; we always went to little fishing village down in the Baja. The people were always wonderful, you just need to learn to tolerate the vendors.

Oh, yes. Mexico is great. We're going next month! It's real close to us, so we just drive over to the beaches in Sonora along the Sea of Cortez. You can't go wrong. J adores the Yucatan, but I have yet to go there. Yet another place "on the list"!

That's weird...Sam and I are thinking about a Mexico trip in October for a week. We wanted sun and beach but not too pricey. I'm in the midst of job upheaval (will tell you more on Friday) so it seems like a good time. Let's share info. Fun in the sun!!!

Sounds great to me. I am not well traveled to Mexico so I cannot offer anything. Cancun is very touristy and that is the only place we have been. We are taking our baby to Disneyland for her first birthday in Nov. That is our only pre-ref vacation. No trips sans kids for us this year.!

Yes, you've GOT to go somewhere before Buttercup comes. We went to Croatia, Slovenia, and England. We also would like to go somewhere again (with Julie) before #2 makes her way to us, but it certainly won't be as relaxing as pre-kid days.

That may be just what the doctor ordered. You would have something fun to plan & look forward too as you kill some of your 'wait' time. FUN!

Mexico is a great vacation - especially for relaxing with a cerveza or two. Cabo San Lucas is our favorite. It's a great time of year to go - not too hot. Have a wonderful trip!
