Seriously??

I tried unsuccessfully to get to work today. It took me 2 hours to travel about 10 miles! Not a pretty sight...nope, not at all.

After hearing about the reason for the traffic jam and finishing the coffee that I'd pulled over for in a feeble attempt to "sweat" out the backup a bit...I realized that there was precious little that I could do. So, I came home.

I'm thinking that I'll give it another try at noon.

My commute has been really rough on me lately. Like, ex-TREME-ly rough. I would guess that anyone out there in International Adoption Land can imagine the analogies that I come up with as I sit on my Burgeoning Gluteus MAXimus looking at the back of countless vehicles moving slowly toward a mutual goal. It makes it hard to get up in the morning & I'm tired of it.

Lines. Traffic. Accidents. Unexpected Delays. Thwarted Schedules.

Unknown Territory Ahead.

Kvetching isn't helping. Certainly praying to the Gods of Traffic Harmony isn't working, and there really aren't any elbows to rub to make things easier on me. I tried immersing myself in books on tape, chatting with friends "handsfree" and a variety of other distractors from the craptastic wait...I mean, commute.

At this point, there is no effective diversion.

Maybe I should consider using BART? Or look for a job that I could ride a bike to? How about taking things into my own hands & starting a business at home?? Hey! - maybe I don't even want to work at all? Hmmm, there's a thought. Regardless of the alternative, risk & change would be involved...not to mention some potential and significant expense! That could be scary. Maybe it is worth looking at, though?

I'm at a crossroads.

Definitely worth looking into the changes! I'm trying to make it through my 20th year with the state and am trying to think of what to do next.

Hmmm win the Powerball????

Sorry about these suck-ass commutes..change is scary but can be good. You strike me as someone who will land on her feet no matter what. :)

That's a scary looking crossroads picture. I'm not there, but my gut says that I would try everything in my power not to add four hours to an already long work day. Just my .02. Hopefully you can find reasonable compromise. Like moving to the mountains of Colorado...

;-p

Oh jeez. That picture of the highways at the bottom of the post says it all. And yes, the analogies are a-plenty.

I empathize with you, my friend.

(Sigh).

I stopped working a little bit before Buttons came home and I'm glad I did. However, working can also keep your mind off the wait...except when you're waiting in traffic I guess. Are you gonna stay home with Buttercup?

I know you'll make the right decision for you and JZBoy.

Good luck.

Sending you good thoughts at your crossroads honey. Exciting and scary point to be at... :-)

I heard about that traffic story by the way, it was awful. Apparently people initially reported an animal in the road (it was still dark), and then around 6am someone called in and reported that the "animal" was wearing clothes and they'd better get someone out there immediately. Yeesh!!!

I heard about that-horrible! Christie's right-even the foothills are awesome-my commute downtown is 8 minutes.
Change is hard but good. I moved 1000 miles 2 years ago and am grateful for the perspective it gave me-but it's not easy. ~lmc

Time for a change! I say! Now I know why my hubby came home soon after leaving this morning...

A commute like that would force me to make some changes, too. I hit some crazy, out-of-the-ordinary traffic on the way home tonight and it really got to me. I just couldn't do that on a daily basis.

I can't wait to see where this "crossroads" takes you! ;-)

Scary.

It's worth thinking about at the very least -- once you start thinking, if it's what you really want, it's amazing what pathways (sorry, no pun intended) open up.

yes, Spencer found out about it just by driving Julie to preschool! Luckily, he had some work at home to do in the morning, he was able to avoid most of it.

DEFINATELY look into other options. Keep me posted!

Scary, yet exciting. I know you'll do what's best for you and yours.

I get a little twitchy every so often and decide something major needs to be changed. I'm currently in between twitches.

Hey,
I'm with mamacita! Come to Colorado.

The great thing about being at a crossroad is that you can actually do whatever you want - just deciding what that may be is the hard part.
Best of luck on your decision.

Change is healthy, change is good! That commute looks VERY unhealthy.

Of course, when necessary, one should also reserve the right to proclaim change as bad...!

I moved from DC to Maine to improve my quality of life. Now I have a job where my commute is 1.25 hours each way. (No traffic now -- just far to go...) I fret over what I'll do when/if the babe ever comes. Ugh. I'll meet you at the crossroads.

check this out....
it took DH 3 hours to get home the other day
because.... there was a wreck on the interstate
and a guy was so pissed an hour into the wait
he pulled out a gun and shot the guy who wouldn't let him into his lane
so the traffic got stopped for investigation as well
